The Lake House

Residential

New house in Special Area of Conservation

This is a proposal  for a new build tailor made home on a spectacular site in Howth. The site is  located by the sea, on the north side of Howth peninsula, a protected SAC, a  special area of conservation, a natural heritage designation. The site is  contained by a lake to the south and by the dunes of the beach to the north.  There are wonderful views from the site towards Lambay Island  and Ireland’s Eye. The challenge was to  create a discreet house with lots of sunlight that availed of the views.

The shape of the  house reacts to the path of the sun from east to west. The form of the house is  long because of the restricted site, it is cranked to avail of the views, it is  pitched to maximise sunlight and it is elevated as conditioned by the Council’s  flooding policy. The result is a raised, pitched, cranked, dual aspect  house.
