Park Drive

This house is on Park Drive, an Edwardian development near Ranelagh constructed in approximately 1907.

The road consists of pairs of semi detached houses constructed from a palette of brick, pebble dash, and slate roofs with ornate timber detailing. Each pair is configured differently giving the road a distinctive character. When our clients purchased the house it was virtually unchanged from its original condition and needed repair, maintenance and modernisation. The challenge was to open up and extend the ground floor to create zones for family life to coexist connected to the gardens, but separate when required. The extension consists of a higher and lower volume, which was necessary in planning terms, but also allowed the creation of a cosy contemporary bay window with day bed, and a high level strip window which brings light into the kitchen area. The first floor consists of four great bedrooms and rather than eliminate one of these a small side extension with rooflight was constructed to accommodate the family bathroom.
