This is a house on an elevated site with views over Galway. The brief required a contemporary functional design. The house is composed of two contrasting volumes, a large upper volume sitting on a recessed base. The upper volume, rectilinear in form, houses the majority of the accommodation. The entrance, located off center, splits this volume into private bedroom and more public living areas. Below the lower level is cut into the ground and contains the utility functions of the brief. The contrast between the two volumes is continued in the selection of materials.
