This project is for a new house on a headland on the coast of Wexford. The challenge was to resolve the conflicting objectives of getting planning permission in a scenic amenity area while designing a home that made the most of this site. The form of the house is a response to the orientation, the adjacent Norman wall and the prevailing wind. The stooped form has a marsh grass roof to increase thermal mass and link it with the ground. The form enables an entrance courtyard on its north side and a private garden on its south side.
