These are three houses overlooking the sea in Brittas, Co. Wicklow. The R370, the Coast Road, passes directly above the site. The views from this road are protected. The challenge was to design a house type that was low to preserve the views from the road and at the same time was high enough to avail of the views of the sea. The houses are set into the ground taking advantage of the slope. This reduces the apparent height as viewed from above. The houses appear as low grass roofs from the west and two storey only when viewed from the east.
