This is a refurbishment of a small red brick house, a split level workers cottage. It has one tall reception room located to the front and the remaining accommodation split over two levels to the rear. The brief was to refurbish the house and build a kitchen and utility. A low single storey volume was built on the north side of the garden. This is long and thin to maintain the garden width and to allow light into the dining area. Corner sliding and retractable doors allow this space open completely into the garden. The hall and front reception room were refurbished simply.
