This is a renovation of a Victorian house, a protected structure on Dartmouth square. The brief required spaces that period houses often lack: a family kitchen, utility, bathroom, etc. The challenge was to provide these spaces without compromising the elegance of the existing house. The reception rooms were restored and a three storey extension was built to the rear. The form of the extension is composed to avoid these reception rooms and their windows. The width of the extension reduces as it rises. The original house and the new extension enjoy natural light.
