This is a listed 1850s Victorian house. The brief was for a contemporary extension to enhance the elegance of the original house. The extension is composed of three volumes, varying in height, which wrap around the original house and relate to its proportions. A single story entrance volume is concealed by an original brick wall, capturing a courtyard between the two. A three storey brick volume lies behind, containing key services which allow the main rooms of the house to be freed up. It presents a blank brick facade to the road. A two storey glazed volume is located to the rear. It contains a tall dining space which opens to the kitchen above and the garden outside.
